I know i havent been on here in a long time and am sorry, i am very busy with new job and so many new things going on in my life hard to find time. My Sissy is very sick and i would like you all to keep her in your prayers please. She has bladder stones. The dr gave her an antibiotic and pain pills and put her on a strict diet hopeing to disolve them, if not surgery will cost 1.047.88 and that will be rough for us but we will do what we have to do. Thank you! I will keep you updated, i promise.

Hi Chris and Sissy

Our Tootles had bladder stones so I know what you are going through. We tried the diet but it didn't work and she had to have the surgery. They found a couple of stones about the size of a nickel coin and more gravel size. She did fine with the surgery. Luckily I have a credit card I use only for high vet bills or we would probably have had to put her to sleep.
What is the food she is on? I pray she gets all better.

In the xray hers looked like the size of one of those blue robins eggs and like you said a bunch of gravel sized ones. She is on Hills Prescription Diet s/d. Oh how I hope this works.

Chris,

Tootles didn't like the SD either and Sissy sounds just like her. If she isn't going to eat the food the stones are not going to dissolve. Although the money wasn't there we decided the surgery was going to have be done and bit the bullet and put it on our credit card rather than have her suffer any longer. She did fine with it and we are glad we did it even though we thought we would never get it paid off. With a stone that large I would think it would take a long time to dissolve. Did you ask the Vet how long it might take to dissolve the stone all the while both of you are suffering? I know where you are coming from and how stressful it is. You have my sympathy. Please keep us informed.

Chris,

Just hang in there but if she seems to be getting worse or not passing urine call your vet immediately. You don't want her urinary tract to get plugged. I'm there for you and give her a pat on the head from me. You are both in my prayers.

I keep a close watch on Tootles now. If she starts licking herself excessively or acting a little strange we are off to the Vets as she seems to be prone to urinary tract infections as well.

Usually the larger stones do not dissolve, they have to be removed, and passing the smaller ones scars up the ureathra. You will know if they are passing crystals or small stones as there is usually blood in the urine.

I'm so sorry to hear that Sissy is still under the weather, Chris. I understand why the not drinking would stress you out. It's very important that she drink. My prayers will continue.

I will keep her in my prayers for sure. Depending what the stone is made of sometimes a teaspoon of apple cider vineager in the water helps neutralize the urine, but it will not dissolve a stone that is already formed.
I forgot exactly where you live? Certain parts of the country are very expensive for vet surgery, for instance I paid less than $400 for a C-section and aftercare where I live and my friend in Boston paid almost $3000 for the same procedure at one of their clinics. I happen to know the surgery for that is under $500 in Arkansas with my old vet. So perhaps you should check around into it. I don't know how far you are from there, but Scott Hamm is the BEST in surgery for brachephalic breeds there is....might be worth the drive.
