Worthy!

KDiamondDavis May 27, 2010 06:24 AM

Worthy is doing well. He turned 3 years old on April 2nd. His SLO is in remission. He is on Omega 3 now, in addition to his other vitamins, and that stuff is great.

We feed birds in the back yard, black sunflower seeds and cracked corn. Across a 4-lane street there is a lake. A pair of Mallard ducks have started flying over our fence and spending time in the yard, eating cracked corn and drinking out of the ground bird bath.

Squirrels come every day to the feeding trays. Feeding the birds would be worthwhile just for that--because Worthy used to be wild when he would spot a squirrel on a walk. Now they're familiar and he goes right on! And having the ducks come to the back yard is accomplishing the same thing. Plus, they are neat to have as visitors.

I was afraid they would nest in the yard, which would not be good because mama would have to lead her ducklings through a wood fence and over a 4-lane street to get them to the lake. Happily, it seems the ducks have decided there is not enough cover in the yard to nest, so they just come to eat. And to train my assistance/service dog! God bless them!

Sounds like things have gone very well for you both! It's terrific to read that his SLO is in remission. How are his toenails coming along? That's pretty cool about the ducks and you were right to worry about the ducks nesting in the yard... 4 lane highways are no place for ducklings! Between the ducks and the squirrels what a great learning experience for everyone.

His toenails look better and better. They are growing thicker, not longer yet. The shells are still around them largely, but not longer than the quicks with their new shells. We haven't had anything thing there to shorten for a few months. His nails may be permanently different, but he is clearly in remission now on the SLO. What I'm expecting to see is that once they are nice and thick, they will start growing length again. But they are not sore or infected and they look pretty good.
