From those with experience, are dachshunds good with children? I looked at a female long-haired miniature dachshund today who was very sweet, but I know very little about how the breed responds to children. Thanks

For the most part the answer will be yes. But one must also consider will the children be good with the dog? If the children are very young they along with the dog must be trained to respect each other. This is a dog that requires a leader... something people neglect to do with smaller dogs. With proper leadership and an adult willing to be the pack leader then the Doxie should get along fine with children. Without it the dog could have some behavioral problems but keep in mind this isn't a Doxie trait... just more of being a little dog.

If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.
I agree with Shboom. You cannot judge the whole breed. The individual dog is what is important. Training from the first day is absolutely necessary.
How old are your children? Have you ever had a dog before?
Train a pup now and have a lifetime of fun!
