Hello all!
I adopted this 2 year old kid after he was deemed "unadoptable" by the shelter I work at. He's turned out to be a nearly perfect dog. Very well-mannered and quiet, sleeps all day in the apartment and all night but if you let him off leash outside he'll take off like a greyhound chasing a rabbit (after 2 strides you can't catch him), very shy of other dogs and strangers (could be his past experiences or lack of socialization), great with the cats, easy to train...
But what is he??
Rudy is just about 45 pounds and could stand to gain another 5-10. The current guesses are Great Dane, Greyhound, or Plott hound mixes. He looks a lot taller than he is at about 24" tall at the shoulder. He's all legs. He can fold up onto a chair that's 18" wide and 12" deep without any parts falling off (all the legs go under his body and he tucks his head into his hip). He's also got one heck of an underbite ~1/2" makes for a constant "sad puppy" look. He's also got webbed feet but is a terrible swimmer. Running at top speed is his favorite. His back flexes both directions and he's got the gait of a greyhound and very strong rear legs. He's very good at treeing squirrels, practically climbs the tree after them. But is afraid of the dark, he relies heavily on sight and is afraid of bushes and dark driveways when walking at night.
He's an espresso brown brindle with caramel highlights and some white markings on his face, paws and chest. The white patch on his chest is not the same as his skin. The skin is covered in quarter-sized black spots, but his fur is solid white. His ears are normally carried down and slightly back, but will perk up and completely forward if there's a squirrel to chase.
When we've got some spare change and the DNA tests include Great Dane as well as Plott Hound, he'll get DNA tested. But for now, What do you think my sidekick is?
