Ready for the 4th

Well, the firecrackers started in our neighborhood last night. Bo turned around to face them and gave them a rousing PH chorus along the lines of "I can be louder than you!" Harvey joined in but was clearly the first back in the house. I'm afraid Bo will go hoarse if they start firing off those huge ones...

Good for Bo! Independence day is a real endurance test here. Fireworks begin a week early and last for a week afterward. Glory ignores them, Rooney barks at them, and poor Serra practically goes catatonic with fear. The only place she will settle and sleep is in the back corner of my son's bathroom, right next to the tub. So, we set up a little cocoon area for her back there. Bad times ahead!

Everyone will get there share of ''Ace'' and peanut butter about 7pm, Friday, Saturday and Sunday night and will just ''go to sleep'' while the boomers go off. Living just a few blocks from Fort Leavenworth, where they have a HUGE display, the windows acutally start to rattle!! BEAUTIFUL but oh my...LOUD

Back years ago when we just had the two K'Azar dogs (Mirage and Dharma) and the sweet but dumb greyhound Peggy Sue we lived across from a high school football field. Little did we know when we rented the house that they did the annual town 4th of July fireworks on that field. They went off ABOVE our house with ash falling into our back yard. What a nightmare for the entire time we lived there (we were in graduate school).

Here we live quite far from an actual display and fortunately we don't have a lot of them from the neighbors because they are illegal in this county.

They are illegal where I live, but there is always someone who bang, bang, bang the heck out of them.

Most of my dogs tollerate them, but Kahn and Sassy can't deal with them, so we put them in the center of the basement in a small room and turn on the radio and turn off the lights and that seems to help. I also give Kahn ACE too.

Good luck to all!

I believe I'll be visiting the vet for some ace, too, this year. I was really worried about Serra, last year, she was so upset. Mike stayed up with her well past midnight until all the fireworks on our hill went silent.

Where we live there is a huge fireworks display just north of us at UNT, and just east of us in a little town called Lake Dallas, and south of us at Lake Lewisville. So we are literally surrounded.
The only one of my Ph's that doesn't like the loudness is Zephyr. I used to have to put her in a crate, cover the crate like she was a canary, and play loud music on the radio in that room.
However, for the past 3 years, she can't hear them. One advantage to being almost 14 years old I guess..........

Legal or illegal it doesn't seem to matter around here. No one pays attention to rules in this rural area. That said, I will have Ett and Hairy in another town at a show for the 4th. Don't have any idea what to expect at the hotel but will travel prepared for the worse. The dogs are used to gun shots but not fireworks.
We wish everyone a happy, healthy and safe 4th of July.
