YELLOWSTONE ANYONE?????

CZFoley Jul 06, 2010 12:39 AM

Hi all-

I am planning a first time trip to Yellowstone in late Sept. Dummy me thought that everyone would be back in school and accommodations in the park would be a breeze to get. WRONG! Does anyone out there have experience with the park as far as staying inside (which place to stay at if an opening pops up) or outside the entrance to Yellowstone and driving in each day to sight see etc? I would be sooo grateful for any suggestions that any of you might have. You can either post your comment here (not sure if that is allowed since not dog related) or email me privately at CZFOLEY@hotmail.com. I would gladly welcome any suggestions on what to do in the park or what to skip. Also how much time will I need there? I would love to get to Glacier too but only have 10-11 days and we are driving from So California.

Thanks,
Charlotte

My parents had a summer home in West Yellowstone for many years. I've spent quite a lot of time there. It really shouldn't make much difference if you stay in or out of the park. The things you'll want to see, like Old Faithful, etc. are a pretty easy drive around the park. You can pretty much see everything in a couple of days, although it's so pretty you might want to just hang out for the heck of it

Thanks for responding Pam. I appreciate the info. I certainly can use any feedback from others.

Would you say 3-4 days is plenty of time before we head to Glacier Natl Pk.

what i meant to say was,
no, once you are standing in any part of the park you will want to spend the rest of your life there...but 3-4 days is so much better than no days in yellowstone
enjoy yourself
glacier national park is gorgeous also, i spent 3 months there working on a movie, but yellowstone is breathtaking

Okay now I can't wait to go! Sounds like I am going to buy a cabin and retire up there.

Are you an actor or camerman? What kind of movie was it? Sounds like a pretty neat job.

I think you can take dogs to the National Parks, are you taking yours?

I also think Yellowstone is part of a supervolcano that could go at any time so I don't think a cabin and retirement there is such a good idea.

I am sad to say I was only there once when I was about 8. I remember Old Faithful but nothing else. I guess I need to go back if it's as good as you guys are saying.

when the yellowstone super volcano goes off, the entire world can kiss its a** goodbye
so what a better place to be when it happens than ground zero and get the suffering out of the way...

I did that years ago and it was well worth it. I am going to get one prior to the trip.

pja666 Jul 09, 2010 04:50 PM

if you have a disability, you can get the pass for free for life. you need to show a doctors letter about your disability at any national park station to get it. the one pass you cannot get online.

Joe and I visited Yellowstone in the motorhome on our way to Lompoc years ago. The East entrance was under construction due to a huge mudslide that took everything with it to the bottom of the mountain. It was scary in the motorhome because there were no guard rails. Once in the park, I didn't want to leave! The entire park is the most beautiful park I've ever seen and makes the Grand Canyon look not so grand. We took the dogs to see Old Faithful. The were not inpressed, I was!!! We want to go back during the winter some time.

You will love it!!
