A bark collar that works

ASYM Jul 21, 2010 12:49 AM

Thought I'd post about a bark collar that actually works on my dog (who loves the sound of his own voice). I bought this collar as a last resort and it literally saved me from shipping him to be debarked. Bosch is a serious barker, and I have tried many different kinds of collars and other devices to no avail. He would do things like take the 'punishment' completely ignore the device, or change his bark pitch to foil the device.

It is a Lovett's Electronics BC06 bark collar. It came new reeking badly of cigarette smoke but I decided to give it a try anyway.

It's big and heavy and gives a heck of a shock. Bosch took the first two shocks (with minor yelping), but after the third progressive shock he screamed, ran inside and slinked around me for quite awhile. it's now been over a month and I can report the following: Collar on- quiet dog. Collar off- barking maniac.

Alice I too have used a barker collar. It sounds terrible to most but like you said it is a last resort. My male Killian is not a barker except when the dog behind us challenges him on the other side of the fence. My Katobi (Cadie) is a hell of a barker and it can be so annoying. Her sister Zara (sorry Lori) is even worse. It only takes one or two shocks and ahhhh quietness and peace. We discovered our first barker collar when we owned a Minature Pinscher years ago. Now I know why all of the show people had their Min Pins debarked.

I too have a barker. Her name is India. I think she just likes to talk about anything. I put a bark collar on her to go outside and when I have visitors.

She is not that extreme, but she really wants to speak her on voice, so to speak!

Most of my dogs are not barkers. They don't even bark during lure coursing trials, which I prefer. Unusual I would say for a PH.

Kebi is quite a talker too ! We have a bark collar - we bought at PetSmart (about $80.00). We primarily use it early mornings. We usually don't even turn it on - she became accustomed to it after about 3 times of wearing it. Occassionally, we do turn it on to keep her aware of why she wears it! Kebi simply loves the sound of her own barking and thinks the rest of us do too!

She also likes to chat it up in the conformation ring. This is not so much a bark, as it is a bit of chit-chat - this is where she really tests my nerves! Most judges have been quite good sports with her - either smiling over at me knowing that I am completely at my wit's end, or making some humor out of it ! *This is when I would really like to use the collar!!*
