Worthy's Doing Well!

KDiamondDavis Aug 12, 2010 06:46 AM

Worthy's SLO toenail condition showed up last July and now 13 or so months later it seems to fully be in remission. All the nails have filled back in. The Omega 3 fish oil capsules that he will always need have his coat looking amazing, too!

We took him to the veterinarian for a regular check up last week, and he was pleased with the condition of the nails. Worthy is about 4 pounds too heavy, so the vet said to cut his calories just about 5%, for a very slow weight loss. I always ask the vet about my dog's weight on every check up, because vets tend not to mention that unless you ask. He then evaluates the dog very carefully and gives much better weight information than I could figure out for myself. It is so much better to change the weight up or down when it's just a small amount off, than when the fat percentage has gotten way off.

Worthy did not need any medication for the SLO at all, just a very careful vitamin program. And he will always need it. I'm sure it is due to the ever-growing Poodle coat. He is a black, large Standard Poodle, and he has a VERY thick coat. That takes tons of nutrition. Apparently in his case, the coat took from the nails. But things seem to be back in balance now. And wow, he is handsome!

KDD always nice to read of Worthy's progress reports. Sounds like everything is under control with the SLO and it's good to see that the fish oil capsules have had the desired effects not only with his toenails but his coat as well.

If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.

Thanks, you guys! Actually, what put Worthy's toenails into remission was B Complex 100 timed release, added to his megadose sodium ascorbate (vitamin C), natural vitamin E, Multidophilus Plus, and extra virgin olive oil. The Omega 3 was something he will greatly benefit from, but I think his toenails would have recovered the same without it. They had started to turn around before we added it. It's great for coat, and for several other things, and he's tolerating it great. He chews up the gel caps very happily and swallows them!
