Panacur dosage

dragonzncornz Aug 16, 2010 10:58 AM

Hello,

I mostly post in the reptile forums, but have a question that I was hoping a moderator or dog expert would see. I need to worm my dog and I have equine panacur, that I have used on my reptiles in the past. I know I can use it on my dog, but was wondering about dosing. I have searched google to see about dosages, however, it looks like you give a dog the same amount you would give a horse. For example: 100 lb dog gets the same dose as a 1000 lb horse. How does that work? How does the horse get less then the dog when the horse is so much larger? Hope someone can answer my question.

Thanks,
Stephanie

The dosage of panacur for a dog is 50mg per kg body weight. As I don't know what form or concentration you have, you will have to calculate the amount yourself.

Hello,

what I have is 25 gram paste 10% (100mg/g). My dog weighs 100 lbs. Well he actually fluctuates between 95 and 110 depends on what time of the year it is. LOL So from what your dosage says I am to give him 2250 mg? Is that correct?

Thank you,
Stephanie

Using the upper weight of 110 lbs, equal to 50 kg, he should get 2500mg, or 2.5g, of Panacur. If the paste is 10 %, he needs 25 g of the paste

Oh wow. That is the whole tube. I don't think I will be able to get all that in him. LOL I think I will just take him down on vaccination day and have them give him the shot. They do the cheap vaccinations in my town every Sunday. Thank you for your help.
