Hi Dr,my moms dog has kidney stones. She already went thru 2 weeks of antibiotics just incase it was a urinary tract infection. She was still squating but not as bad so mom took her back. The nite prior she urinated and actually passed a stone.Unfortunatly Lola urinated in the office so the xray didnt show very well...the dr gave some special canned food and said no more dried food.I know she feeds her pretty good food royal canine for shietsus(sp?).Lola is going back to re xray tuesday. So anyways i was wondering if you can she some light with diet etc?I told her about the cranberry extract and she has been giving her that. You told me about it when Ally(RIP)had her issues. It saved me tons at the vet and made Ally happy so thank you for your help!!!!

There are several things that can be done for stones, depending on the type of stone. Hopefully, the vet was able to determine what kind of stone your mother's dog has. The two most common types of stones are struvites and oxalates. If she has struvite stones, give her d-mannose at each meal, feed meat and bone and stop all commercial dog food, and add water and salt to the food. If it is oxalate stones that she has, do the above, plus add a chinese herbal mixture called Stone formula twice a day. Oxalate stones are hard to dissolve.
