Our vacation

deetu Sep 11, 2010 09:01 PM

We went to the shore for a couple days. It was great that our friends invited us to stay with them so we could bring Ayla. Their new puppy, a Westie, wouldn't leave Ayla alone unfortunately. She wanted to play but Ayla wasn't raised with dogs so felt intimitated by her.
I brought a puppy pen with us so that she had a safe place. (the puppy would bite the bars and put her paws thru it though)
Anyway, Ayla liked the beach and....drum roll please....
She peed when walking on the leash!!! She only used the wee wee pad once and I think that was an accident. It was funny the first time because she was walking on the sidewalk, suddenly squated and peed, then looked at it like "what was that?"
And now that we are home, she is back to wee wee pads but now we know she will if she has to.

Hi Dee.
Hope you had some nice weather for your time at the beach. I had a friend who has a Westie...cute little dog. Guess Ayla learned that it's OK to take care of business while on a walk. I sometimes wish, in the dead of winter when it's snowing or freezing out, that I had trained Katie to use the pads. Now that she's fifteen years old and really beginning to show her age I've been kind of training her to go on newspaper way at the end of my kitchen. She's done it a couple of times and I've praised her. Now, I just have to remember NOT to leave them on the floor in the living room. LOL Perhaps I can get some of those pads. Do you think I can train a fifteen year old to use them? Do they have a scent that draws a dog to them?

Yep, since she is using the paper, she should be able to use the pads. They do make them with a scent to attract them to it.
Katie is getting up there, huh? Sweet little thing.

Thanks for the information, Dee, I'll make a trip to Petco and pick some up. Yes, Katie is fifteen and slowing down. I'm glad that she's still eating well. I'm not looking forward to winter though with snow on the ground. I've always cleared an area in the front yard for her and I still will but it would be nice if I can get her to use the pads.

Just a thought.

Put pad down. The next time Katie goes outside maybe bring in a tiny piece of poo or paper towel with her urine on it. Put it on the pad and next time she wants out put her on it and see what she does. If you use it in the garage probably work best so the odor doesn't come in the house. That might give her the idea what the pad is for.

I have no idea if this would work.

Thanks for the suggestions, Cheryl. Her poos are very small so that won't be a problem. Sometimes I can't even find them in the front yard. LOL It's raining here again. I hope that this pattern doesn't follow us into winter or we'll be buried in the snow.

Ah, the beach. I sure would like to go there one more time and watch and hear sounds of the ocean. But, it is not to be.

Glad Ayla had a good time.

Dee, that sounds very nice. Trudy is wary of dogs too, especially if they BUG her, ha. I don't blame her. I wouldn't want someone jumping on me either.

I hope you can get Katie to go on a pad. Would be nice for her to go on in the winter. Our dogs are getting older...Trudy is nine now. Katie 15. All of them are getting older. Time flies.

Dear Katie, keep on doing well please. We love you!
