Older dogs

Cackle Sep 20, 2010 11:31 PM

I've not had the pleasure of living with an older dog before, so, I have some questions.

Mitsi is going on 11 now, she's fine and dandy although she does seem to sleep a lot more and she is doing a few strange things.
She sometimes plays like a pup but other times she seems a bit stiff when she first gets up. This winter she spent her time laying in front of the fire, which was a first.

So am I supposed to be doing anything different for her?
Does she need some tonics or vitamins or anything?

I understand I could take her to the vet but I think they just want to sell you stuff for the sake of it.

Any tips for me?

Try posting your question on the Dr.Tobin holistic vet board and see if he has any suggestions.

I talked to the vet's nurse about supplements yesterday. We are going to get some today. Antioxidents and some other things. Trudy eats a good canned food, fresh food and fruit and veggies. I will now begin to supplement her diet. She is 9 1/2.

If Mizti is stiff there are good supplements for that. I hope she feels better soon. I know we all want them to feel as good as they possibly can.

I will have to check out the site in the above post.
