Zane Grey is home

Tetreault Sep 28, 2010 08:26 AM

I picked him up late yesterday afternoon after work and I was very nervous about the whole thing.

He can only go out on a lead and for just a few minutes. He had a cone on his head, but this morning he had pulled it off during the night. He ate well, dranked water, pooped and peed and the walk outside went better this morning than it did last night. He seems in good spirit and was eager to get home, but I have to keep him calm at all times. This is hard to do with a bunch of dogs around him and him being such a high energy fellow anyway. I filled up a squirt bottle and every time one of the others thought to bark and cheer him on, I squeezed the water bottle to hush them. It works beautifully.

More later.

Dear Linda,
So glad that Zane Grey is recovering.
A tip that our vet gave to us when one of our dogs was having to use an e-collar:
Buy a harness style collar, and then you can tie the e-collar to the harness collar.
It worked for us
Also, for the first few days, I hope that the vet sent home some meds that would perhaps keep him calmer than usual? We found that a bit of Tramadol from our vet made a big difference.

Hoping that Zane Grey's recovery will go smooth sailing for him and for you!
Best wishes,
Rebecca

First thing I did was put a harness on him. I asked the vet about calming medication, but he did not want me to give that.

He went back to the bet this morning and will stay for another 3 days. I don't know why yet. I called as I was leaving from Macy's to pick him up and the receptioness said he had to stay, but my vet had left for the day. I'm off work Wed. and will call first think in the morning.

Wionna,
Thanks for asking. I hope to pick him up after work today. I talked to his vet on Thurs. and he said the pin that is giving him the most trouble continues to work its way up. He said he was going to try and correct that problem on Thurs.

Somehow he escaped his kennel on Tues. night, but he was still enclosed where they are keeping him. Too smart for his own britches!

It has been two long weeks now since the escape from the yard. This has been a nightmare indeed.

I talked to Sara yesterday. She is my dog sitter who comes over during the day to let them out and play with them. She told me a little more about what actucally happened on the highway. It went down really fast it sounds like. Zane Grey and Sassy crossed the highway according to her and was on their way back accross when he was hit. Sassy ran back to the church parking lot and stayed until the patrol car pulled up and Sara opened the door and Sassy jumped in the back seat.

The woman who drove him to the vet turns out to be someone in animal rescue. I still do not know her name.

Keeping my fingers crossed he will heal up right so that he can be his old self again and continue his tracking skills, agility and lure coursing. He is an over achiever.

Linda...I hope the vet was able to get the pin stabilized. This has been such an ordeal...hang in there

Zane Grey will stay at the vet's clinic through Tues. Dr. Wright wants to continue watching him. He seems to be doing better now. It is best he stays there and not here right now as I am working over the weekend and Mia and Mandy both are in their heat cycle. It would only upset him to be here.

Keeping our fingers crossed for a complete and good healing.
