Saturday was a memorable rally-o experience with Kahla and Zelda. We were trying for our 10th legs towards Rally Advanced Excellent titles.
For the RAE you must qualify in both Advanced and Excellent at the same trial for a leg, 10 legs for the title. Zelda is staying with us for a bit while we are down a dog as our RR needs a pack, and just Kahla does not make a pack. Emily had 4 RAE legs on her already and I asked if she wanted me to continue for her, sure! Well, if I'm taking Z I might as well take Kahla. So I caught Kahla up and wondered if I could pull off keeping them at the same count once caught up...
It worked out... now the last leg...
Prior to the show the secretary contacted me and asked if I would like her to separate my entries. How very cool! Yes please, two dogs between for Excellent, 1 for Advanced please. The judging schedule arrives and Zelda is first with Kahla 2 dogs after and then same order with one between for Advanced. How very cool!
However, when we got there it was a bit disorganized, they did the running order how they checked in with no arm band for Kahla. I let them know that as I'm handling two dogs they need to put two dogs in between, they have us as 4th and 5th dog in for Excellent. I then gave up as the first Ex dog goes in the ring and the secretary starts to explain how she did the schedule. It should be taken care of now.
I go stand in a corner with Zelda so she can see all that is happening. When the first dog finishes her course they start calling me to get in the ring, as the second dog to exhibit. Huh? I was just at the table and you had us fourth? I apologize to the first dog’s handler for having to wait and hurry in, realizing as we go in they are asking for Kahla, not Zelda. The judge says never mind and switches her sheet. No stress here... *sarcasm*
Zelda was quite distracted but still very happy and having fun. That's her fourth place ribbon for that first class. As we finished there's the honor steward holding Kahla... I had hurried to the ring forgetting to close the crate fully with Kahla in it. Opps! Had to run and put her away, then come back and honor. Zelda did great.
I get Zelda back to the crate to reward her and they're calling me to be in with Kahla, they only put one dog between us. Race back with Kahla. The judge asks if I'm ready, Kahla hears the R word and takes off. I stand there "Kahla, Kahla" in a nice voice. "Kahla" in a not so nice voice. She turns and comes back. Sits and chuffs. Oh, boy, this is going to be fun, somebody's a little miffed about the whole debacle...
I’m happy to report the girls did it!! Kahla with a 75 in that first class and then a 92. Zelda pulled an 82 in the first class with fourth place and an 89. I am SO VERY pleased with both the girls staying with me and still playing the game we call Rally under these circumstances.
We then had to go straight from the trial to a weekend of taking care of gramma. Where they both show just how great they really are, putting up with 3 geriatric Chi’s who have less than desirable social skills (but are very cute!).
I’m so tickled with the girls!!
