Why do I do that?

Time01 Oct 24, 2010 01:48 PM

As you all know I have 3 dogs. I love and cherish them. But they are not human. Then why do I talk to them as if they are? For example today, it is a spectacular beautiful day. 72 deg., sunny with a light breeze. I insisted they go outside and stay for more than 5 minutes and enjoy the day while they last.

So do they really understand me when I rattle off all that info? I don't think so! LOL

Why do I do that?

I wish that you would send those 73 degree temps my way, Cheryl. It was sunny here but not that warm.

I think most of us talk to our dogs as if we were talking to another human being. When Katie was a pup, she would sometimes leave me a "present" way at the end of the kitchen...hoping I guess that I wouldn't see it. LOL I would say to her, "Did you do that?" I would get this sheepish look and off she would run.

What worries me if someday they do answer me. LOL Wonder what they would have to say.

Oh, I'm sure that they would have nice things to say, Cheryl.

What a cute story, Mary Lou. I talk to Trudy and I know she understands a LOT. It is really amazing.

The other day, she had gone outside and tried to play like she had gone to the bathroom. I could read her FACE!!! I laughed so hard. I told her I can see she didn't go! Off she went... SO cute.

Oh, I think that they understand a lot of what is said also, Sally. I think much of it comes from the tone of our voice and our actions. I think that they also learn what certain words mean like NO, Good Girl. They probably won't pick up on a complete sentence but if you keep the directons short and simple, they will understand.

We do too. Sunday, my hubby told Trudy she can't go to church with us, if she could he would take her. hehe. She sure has plenty of dresses to wear!

She loves to go look for us.I say "go find daddy." Fred says "where's mamma?" She will always find us.

Let's take a nap. Let's go to bed. Jump up (that tells her to get in her spot to be picked up)

She knows so many tricks and so many words. Dogs sure love to learn.

The word that makes me laugh every time is "Excuse me." If she is where I want my feet in bed or she is on my bath mat when I need to get out of the bathtub I say "Excuse me." She moves. So funny.

Just one more, ha. My dad loves this one. I say "lick your lips" and she does it.
