I was just wondering about Gozo. How's his leg? Is he leaving the bandage alone? If so, how did you accomplish that miracle? (at least it would be a miracle at my house!)

Hi Ruth,
Thanks for asking! He is doing fine, went back to vet wed, and took off the first bandage, but re-wrapped it with instructions to take it off Sat. Well, to keep him from chewing on it I wrapped a plastic bag around it and taped it and was constantly watching him and keeping him supplied with bully sticks. He finally decided that it should come off Friday, so instead of him chewing it off himself, I took it off. He still favors it some, but it is SO much better. We still do not know what got him, but the Vet is thinking maybe a small copperhead.

really???? Did he have necrotic area? As you know my boy Uber was bitten four times this past June, so I can tell you what to expect as far as healing and I swear to god NEEM OIL worked wonders for Uber...MINIMAL scarring!!!

Oh and very happy he is looking and feeling better!

Gozo doesn't have any type of open sore area, that's the strange thing. Don't know whether is was such a small snake, or even if it was a snake for sure. I am just thankful that he is better, still a little sore, but the swelling has really gone down.

Could it have been a spider bite?

Unfortunately all three of mine have experienced a spider bite, and Sabia's presented as you describe Gozo's.

All have have found in the run where he was turned out at 1 am that morning was alot of leaves, some with asps on them. I still do not know what it was, just glad that he has recovered. The attached photos were taken this past Sat @ the ASFA Regional.

Better off a mature copperhead. The small guys have not yet learned to regulate their venom release and give everything when they bite. Small venomous snake bites often are worse than the big guys.

actually that is a myth. Found out ALOT about copperheads during this episode. And Copperheads are one of the few vipers to actually keep striking venom on each bite.
