Brumation question I guess

sbshortie Oct 11, 2003 11:25 AM

Okay I honestly think that their only food consumption lately was when Pebbles ate a huge cricket maybe a week ago. So I'm guessing that they have pretty empty stomachs. Do I need anything special for them to sleep in or will paper towels in the smaller cage in my cool (temperature wise of course) room work ok? Should I offer them some water before I stop turning on their lights? Oh yeah, does the light turning off have to be gradual or should I just not turn them on tomorrow morning?

Thanks!!!!!!

I have only brumated once. But that turned out as it should - healthy lizards and lots of eggs.

This is how I did: 10 days after last feeding I turned off the heat lamps. 3 days later I turned off the rest of the lights. I brumated at low room temp (20 C) for 50 days and then "reversed the lights". The male was up 2 days after the light was turned on again, but the females stayed below for 50 days more.

I did brumate them in the cage under some rocks - and I had a small dish of water in there.
