Dr. Tobin,

We spoke before and you requested that I get a thyroid panel run. I did, and just got the results today that his thyroid is NORMAL. Our vet requested that we wait 2-3 weeks to see if his symptoms subside because of the cold, snowy weather. She suspects allergies, and she'll be running several tests to pinpoint what he is allergic, too.

While he was there she recommended that I get him on heartworm preventatives. Is there any holistic alternative? And if I start him on them are there serious side effects to it?

What is your opinion??

Most labs use a normal range of 1-4 for the T4, but if his T4 is below 2 it is low and he should be getting thyroid supplements. Ask your vet for the actual T4 value, as she may simply be comparing it with the values that the lab considers normal.
