Bob, it's been an awfully long time since you've posted an update on Beni. How is he doing?

Update on Murphy and his family.....We think we figured out, for sure, what was scaring him....one of the target commercials! He was on mt lap one night when it started and I heard a strange sound. He woke up and started to tremble. Couple nights later, it happened again with same commercial. We started muting commercials and no more problems. They did stop putting that one on, so maybe other dogs had trouble with it?

Other news here is that I fell and broke my wrist last week! This would notbe good anytime, but 3 days before Christmas is really bad timing!

Mom has a pretty purple sleeve on her arm. Once, when she was about to pet me, it bumped me on the head....ouch, bit only a little bit!

Anne... thanks for asking about Beni! He is doing pretty well or as well as can be expected. The reason for no recent update is because the doctor and myself decided to stretch out Beni's next visit from his last November appointment. The doctor suggested 8 weeks and when I made the appointment I went 9 weeks to take the holidays out of the equation. All of the snow we have had serves to confuse him in the backyard even though I snowblow the paths doublewide. Last winter he had better vision. Anyway his next appointment is on January 6th.

Well I'm glad you possibly solved that mystery. While throwing out suggestions at the time I remember mentioning if it could have been a strange sound from the tv. Hopefully they never replay that commercial

Uh oh! How badly did you break it? When I broke mine back in June I really did a number on it. It's still healing as a matter of fact... when I was at the doctor's back in November he told me I still had 6 to 8 months to go before it would all be over... that means a years time to fully heal. I never had a cast as I opted for the external fixator. I did such a job on it the cast would have went up my entire arm and over the elbow... I don't think I would have liked that. What is the time frame for your wrist?

Hi Bob--

It's a non-displaced fracture. Cast goes up to about 3 inches below the elbow. I go back the 14th for another x-ray and possibly a new cast, for another 3 weeks. Compared to you, I got off easy!

Anne sounds like you did get off easy compared to me! If I had to break a wrist that is my kind of break!lol Here is an x-ray of my arm with the external fixater and pins. The xray doesn't show the tension bar going across the brackets that are screwed into my hand and forearm. All of the hardware has been long gone... just the wrist needs to heal.

Bob that x-ray looks truly terrible! Didn't all those metal pieces snag and catch on everything, or were you in a sling?

I sure hope it is pain free, healed, and strong soon!

Anne.. surprisingly they didn't. Since it was summer I was always wearing a short sleeve shirt. Where I have labeled PINS those were inside my wrist supporting the break and then the fixater bar supported everything else. I also didn't have to wear to a sling... I had totally free movement of my arm. All I needed to do was cover the fixator with a newspaper bag when I showered. If I had opted to wear a cast... unlike you it would have gone up past my elbow and immobilized the entire arm. As for healing.. I'm not in any pain though it does get stiff and sore when I use the wrist a lot which facilitated my buying a snowblower. I still have about 6 months before everything is totally healed. I'm hoping at least before the golf season starts!

Hi Anne,
We are so sorry to hear about your wrist.....we hope that you don't have too much pain as you go through your recuperation. I'm sure Murphy will be happy with the "single" belly rub until you are healed!

Hi Bob,
We are hoping everything goes well with Beni's next check up....we're keeping our fingers and paws crossed...

We hope EVERYONE has a HAPPY NEW YEAR.....
Pets, kisses, belly rubs, and extra treats to all Shibas and their lucky Humans!

Patty, Beni, and the Queen of Shiba....Kari!

Thanks Patty. The first week is behind me, my cast frees all my fingers, and I made awonderful purchase today.....a pair (they won;t sell just one LOL) of rubber goves, size large. The gove goes over the cast very nicely, so i can use that hand..to a degree, without risk of getting my cast wet or soiled. WaHoo, things are looking up!

Happy New Year to you and your pack!

Are we a pack, Mom?
