Hot of the presses!

Well maybe not...

I finished up my studies in June and got this in the mail on September 1st, one day short of my 22nd Birthday. This is my diploma for a Bachelor's in Biology from Stockton College. Time to join the working world! Bio mkt stinks right now in NJ, so I'm actually trying to become a cop now. I'm working as an investigator for a corp now, but I took and passed the State Trooper test over the summer and just took a municipality test this morning! Whatever hits first!

Thanks to all the forum members for your help over the last 4 years!

My roomate looked into taking the State Police exam. It's no joke. Not much different than boot camp. Not to mention the background you need to qualify.

Hey with your biology background and your interest in law enforcement, have you considered a ranger or F & wildlife enforcement position?

I always thought it would be great to bust scum ball poachers and illegal dealers!

That's a damned good idea. We need more good people out there protecting the animals. Probably doesn't pay as much, but.....

Thanks for all the wishes, guys! State Trooper thing is definately very tough though! 5,000 people applied for 75 jobs! Crazy! I was at the academy last monh...very scary place!! 6 months of torture!~ haha
F&W officer would eb awesome! NJ is my dream job (after NJ STATE TROOPERS), but they NEVER HIRE!!! Very hard job to get, and they don't pay nearly as much as Troopers. US F&W is firing law enforcement off's right now but in VA, CT and MA I believe. I'm not willing to leave NJ just yet...money is too good! VA or NC would be a nice move, but they're not making half as much as we are up here. I used to collect fish for surveys with this SC Trooper last year who told me he was making $30k a year as a vet of a few years!! NJ Troopers START AT $50K and top at $82k in 10-12 years!! THAT'S A LOT OF SNAKES!!

HAHA let's hope and pray!

if you're single, you have a whole world of opportunity outside of NJ available to you, other factors permitting. If I was single, I'd be looking for a dream job and going to where it is. What a great adventure confronts you!

Have you looked at federal job ops in NJ?

Right now FWS is recruiting a Wildlife Inspector, wanting a "Knowledge of taxonomy, zoology, biology, or wildlife science." The position starts at GS 5 but has promotion potential to GS 11 (and other job trees that are related which likely go higher). The announcement is here: http://jobsearch.usajobs.opm.gov/getjob.asp?JobID=19428847&AVSDM=2003%2D10%2D10+07%3A14%3A00&Logo=0&col=dltc&cy=&brd=3876&lid=682&fn=&q=

Customs and immigration is also hiring in NJ, and those can be good law enforcement jobs. 20 year retirement if you are in a position that carries a gun. Fed benefits and lots of time off. They often want a degree, any degree to get into the career tree. The feds usually pay better than the states or municipalities, too. After they've spent the money training you at Glencoe, you have a lot more federal law enforcement options to look at as they come available - FBI and the like.

Again, congrats and best of luck, seize life lustily, break the bones of opportunity and suck the marrow out!
