Should he be tested?

PanzersMom Feb 10, 2011 10:46 AM

I have a 4 1/2 year old mostly Lab male dog Panzer. He has on and off skin problems most his life but now its worse (pics below). At first I was thinking allergys but now hes having other changes. This once love to meet new dogs is now acting mean to them and even gave daddy a few little growls when daddy walk by and pet him while he was eatting. Also hes having weight problems. Vet said something about testing his thyroid, what do you think?

Belly

One of the spots on side where hair is thin

Back leg

Other back leg

One of 3 bald spots on his tail

His chest is also thin with hair and all spots on his side and around neck the skin itself is black like his belly.

Definitely have his thyroid tested. If his T4 is under 2, his thyroid output is deficient and he should be put on thyroid hormones. I would also suggest putting him on a homemade diet consisting of meat, bone, fish oil plain yogurt, and liver, and eliminating carbohydrates and dry food and dog biscuits.
