If you were not able to watch Hickory compete on Monday or Tuesday, especially Tuesday, you really should go out to the westminster site, endure the ads, and then watch her. I heard a quote from her handler saying that Hickory had been "on" for both days of competition. I swear you can see that she is when you watch videos. Talk about making TRAD look like floating...beautiful!

The BIS judge will also be the Crufts BIS judge. I enjoyed watching him put his hands on the dogs. Not an accident that a good "hands on" judge put up a marvelous sighthound. He pays her a great compliment when asked why he put her up over the other 6. He says she matches the standard for today and a hundred years ago (I think I'm slaughtering the quote but you get the idea...)

Noooo! Hickory does not have tremendous reach and drive. She has lovely, correct-for-her-breed movement. But not TRAD, that would be incorrect!

Sorry for the over the top response, Ruth, but the emphasis on big, huge strides is becoming more prevalent in many breeds. Probably because it's flashy and makes the all-rounder judges happy. Can you imagine a PH with TRAD working his way over the rocky Maltese terrain? He'd break something. Same, I imagine with the SD native terrain.

I was not sure I had the right term when I used "TRAD" previously so you have just confirmed my gut instincts...someday I'll finally learn to listen to those instincts. So, thank you, for the lesson. It's one of those things I had heard for years but not fully understood.
