Beni update...

Shboom Mar 24, 2011 02:57 PM

I took Beni to Cornell last week and he another decent checkup. There were no signs of corneal abrasions and he did real well with the tear test. His pressure was tested a 9 which was excellent. His sight hasn't improved any and may not ever. If it weren't for that cataract he could still see.

As For Toshi she is the one dog that doesn't ever seem to have any problems. She does get her seasonal allergies but they can be dealt with. I still miss Keiko very much. I have had many dogs come and go in a lifetime but his passing hit me especially hard.

Thoughts coming your way, Bob. I have a dog who lives in my heart. It's been more than 4 years, and I still miss him so much.

Great news on Beni and Toshi!

I was looking around for a poem to share with you, but can't find one that is perfect. So here is one that I liked.

Golden Memories
They say memories are golden, well, maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories, I only wanted you.
A million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly, in death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place no one else could fill.
If tears could build a stairway and heartache make a lane.
I'd walk the path to Heaven and bring you back again.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us back one by one, the chain will link again.

And here is a quote I like....

"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole."
(Roger Caras)

I am sad too because I am going to have to say goodbye to one of my dogs soon. She is about 15 years old. Sadie the Beagle. It's going to be so hard.

Your poem is beautiful, I'm typing as my eyes are teared up....I know things are inevitable, and I've been through the heartache before, but the ache and heaviness in your heart is always so raw, fresh, and new....a pain that you can never get used to or be prepared for.

Your poem makes me appreciate every second, of every minute, of every hour, of every day that I can be with my loved ones....

Thank you

That poem is so very lovely, thank you. And Patty really said it all, in her reply. Thank you, Patty!

We are so happy to hear that our east coast Beni is holding strong...sight aside, the love he must feel, the wonderful smells he must inhale, and the tender pets he receives must make him feel like the "King of Shibas"! Toshi sounds like a survivor - tough, adaptable, realistic, and tender/strong enough to help her loved ones through the hardships of a loved one passing. A true treasure...

and

Keiko, the one who will own another place in your heart forever.

Take care....

Patty, Beni, and Kari
