Shiba's and home owners insurance

kona63 Apr 07, 2011 08:40 AM

I have heard some rumblings that Shiba's are listed as a dangerous breed and my prevent home owners from getting insurance. I did a search online and havent come up with anything on that, I was wondering if anyone has heard of this. It was supposedly in the last 3 years that Shiba's were added to the list. I heard this from someone that is an insurance agent.

I couldn't find anything about this, other than that they are considered "the most dangerous breed of dog, in Japan"! My Murphy sure could never be considered dangerous, but maybe I should start calling him an American Eskimo mix, instead of a Shiba Inu/American Eskimo!

Nuthin' scary 'bout me!

Yeah.. the Dog Bite Law in my opinion is breed biased if you ask me. All dogs will bite at some point in time for a variety of reasons. As for the Shiba... I haven't seen or heard specifically but since all or most of the Spitz breed dogs are on the list it wouldn't come as much of a surprise.

Those breed biased laws really get under my skin. Instead of having a ban on breed's per say how about having a ban on non-responisble pet owners. In my opinion is where the majority of the problem is.

We ahve some insurance agencies in my area that don't insure Akitas, but I have not heard anything about Shibas in my area. I am so sick of BSL and similar breed bias junk. Sigh....
