kidney failure and types of protein

RoseDovey Apr 08, 2011 01:41 PM

I have a cat with chronic kidney failure (I hope it's okay to ask a cat question in this forum) and she keeps trying to get into the jar of brewers yeast. I know that atleast in humans kidney failure can cause a B vitamin deficiency, so for that reason I would like to give her some. But brewers yeast is also very high in protein, and I know that she is only supposed to have certain kinds of protein and not others. Do you know if brewers yeast is safe for animals with kidney failure? Or do the good and bad kinds of protein have different names, so that if I found out what the protein in brewers yeast is called I could go by that?

Thanks.

Cats generally eat animal products, including meat, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy. However, it is best to let the cat have whatever it has a craving for, as long as its choices include some of the above. If the cat is showing a desire for something, it is because its body is craving it, as it is likely otherwise lacking in its diet. If the cat has an aversion to something, it is saying that that is not good for it. Trust your cat and listen to his cravings.
