Theres actually no such thing as a luecistic leo, what your thinking of is a patternless, which is often mislabled luecistic.

ive heard blizzards are luesistics, but it doesnt make sense to me that they often get yellowed a little. what exactly is a blizzard, like, what is the genetic mutation?

She was labeled leucistic, and all of the internet sites from the breeders out there that have leucistic geckos look like mine. Not an expert though, so not entirely sure. When she wakes up I will post a pic and you guys and let me know. She is so great, and very docile, has no problem with being held at all.

No, I dont think you understand. There is no such thing as a leucistic leopard gecko. When patternless leos were first discovered they were believed to be a true leucistic(white body, blue eyes). But the patternless's color varies too much to be a leucistic so that is why the name was changed to patternless. Some people still use leucistic even though it is wrong. The blizzard isnt a true leucistic either because it's color varies as well.

Thank you for clearing things up. So calling her a leucistic is wrong. I should call her a patternless. I understand now. I really do appreciate you clearning things up. So a patternless and a leucistic are generally the same thing, because people use leucistic instead of patternless...even though there is no such thing as a leucistic gecko. Again, thanks for the clerifications. I will start to call her a patternless now.

Hi,

The definition of Leucistic is an all white animal with blue or dark colored eyes... So yes, the blizzard would actually be a "true leucisitc", but the Patternless animal is the one that accidently got the name... Simple mistake...

Josh06 May 29, 2003 08:14 AM

NO, the blizzard is not a true leucistic. Their are yellow blizzards out there too, so therefore the blizzard cant be a true leucistic because it doesnt always have an all white body. They also sometimes have a spot or two.

Could be true, but I dont agree with that statement... There are obviously, without a doubt standard Blizzards out there that are all white, solid pearly white with dark or blue eyes.... Those in my eyes would be the true lucy's... I mean how white can you possibly go with the leopard gecko in terms of leucisism (yup - think I spelled that wrong... - heh) Take a look at some of the posts/pics on the forum and net itself... Many of the blizzards are white and nothing but that.

Josh06 May 29, 2003 10:05 AM

Yes, but for the blizzard to be a true leucistic ALL blizzards would have to be completely white with blue eyes. A lot of blizzards do have a yellowish tint and some others do have a few spots on them. While most blizzards are all white, you cant just classify one blizzard specimen as a true leucistic and another blizzard that has a a little yellow as not a true leucistic. It is the same with patternless. I have seen all white patternless but there are also mostly yellow ones. For a morph to be considered a true leucistic, all the animals that exhibit that morph need to be true leucistics, not just some of them.

ahhhh, now I got ya... So they actually have to be established. In order to be a certain morph or flavor of gecko all the offspring must look the same... Got ya. Cool. Solid white with no blotches or yellow overcast to'em... Sweet, sweet... Thanks man.
