she beat him up bad

Hi guys - I see this is one of the quieter boards so I hope someone reads this - yesterday I went into the pet store for some supplies, and while there went to say hi to the owner's chinchillas. She's had them in there for months, not for sale, just there. The male was gone - the female all of a sudden went berserk and beat him up really badly. Tore both of his little ears, bite marks all over his body, tufts of hair pulled out, the whole 9 yards. He had been like this for several days with no vet visit - but she had apparently put neosporin on him - I'm not seeing any signs of it though.

Well. The little man came home with me at a HUGE discount because she decided to just keep her daughter's chins and sell this pair. The female is preggers and so she won't release her til after the babies.

Well this morning he is going to the vet to see if he has infection or is just beat up - and feels to me like he's underweight too. Anyway. The pet store lady is normally very good with things but right now is having a personal issue of her own which seems to be interfering -

my question - she says her pair were fine until she brought the cage with her daughter's chins in and set it next to this pair - and the evidence does agree with what she has said, no fights all these months. Now after a long separation for her to deliver her babies - like another 2 months - will they still be compatible, or should I forget about her?

he was crying last night, most likely he was afraid, but I really hate for him to have to spend the rest of his life as a single man when he is used to having her with him.

Any opinions out there? Should I wait for her or look for a new wife for him?

The little guy is doing really well - healing up nicely, no signs of infection - but he is depressed looking. I'm trying to find him a younger, more docile roommate than the one who beat him up. Poor little guy looks so sad.
