Pooping Problems

codynolen Jun 01, 2007 09:11 PM

My cavie is starting to have weird bathroom issues. I am mainly concerned with the popp caked up on it while ago.

I had to wipe it's bum bum, then bathe it.

The other problems were just urine all over it due to it laying in it's tollet area. (which is under it's hide. -_-)

So I basucly gave it a bath three times, Four days ago, the the next, then again two days later. F

OK.....

Before I even put my cavie up in it's enclosure, it had a poop issue.

I noticed it had a droping stuck to it, THAT WAS BLOOY.

So I am assuming it's diet is the issue.

I recently added timothy hay to it's food. I place it outside the regular food dish. Last time I added I messed up big time when i broke it up and placed it on the thew food the the food dish. Or so I assume.

What kind of diete will help my cavie stop having poo troubles?

any change in diet can cause runny poo though it should stabalize after a few days. Always sitting in his hide and pooping there will result in caked poop on your cavy's bottom.

If this is suddenly new behavior in an other wise clean cavy with solid poops, then I would address the changes that have been made recently. Adding timothy hay as part of their diet could result in some watery poop but should go away in a few days, unless you are feeding poor quality hay or hay that is starting to rot. Bad hay can cause health issues.

If your cavy has been having this poop problem before giving timothy hay or continues to have it after a few days of feeding clean timothy hay, then I suspect an internal problem, such as bacterial infection, parasites, etc. A vet trip will be necessary.
