Does anyone have the Midwest Ferret Playpen?

grafitti12 Jan 26, 2004 11:01 PM

If you do, I have a question. I bought the cage about seven years ago. I love it because of the size but I am having major problems with the plastic pan on the bottom. The wheels are breaking through the bottom and I am forced to duck tape them to avoid injury to my ferret. This happened when I had my first ferret and I ordered a new bottom after she passed away before I got a new ferret. It has been over a year since I purchased it(for $67!)but several months ago I noticed cracking again where the wheels are. It has gotten so bad now that 4 of the 5 wheels have completely broke through the bottom. It is absolutely ridiculous! Is anyone else having this same problem?

Midwest is getting an angry call tomorrow demanding a new one free of cost. My manager at Petsmart told me what to say because I am definitely not paying that much for another one and having it break in less than a year.

Mine did the same thing and i got so tired of it, i end up buying a more expensive cage, but it's worth it. i think the plastic part is to brittle and don't hold well. Yes i have done the same think with putting tape on it and....i gave up on it.

the cage that i have now for stinky has four tier, and the bottom has a grate but has a metal bottom, no wheels though, but i have it attached to the side of the wall of one of my bedroom and have to say, stinky has been in this cage for 8 years now and the cage still looks new. unlike the Midwest Playpen that only lasted less than a year :O(

you might want to consider to spend a little bit more if you can, it's really worth it. the one i have cost me 200$ and trust me i did not have the money for it, i just save a little bit at a time and when i had enough i went and bought it. It's not as colorful as the midwest Ferret Playpen, but hey! it's more durable and last for a long long time. If you divide 200 in 8 years it's like 25 dollars a year.
