New owner and nipping and biting

darkclient May 03, 2004 06:37 PM

Hi i have recently bought a female ferret. I named her Bell she is about three months old. She came from Marshalls. What i need to know is there a difference in nipping and biting. Bell will nip and play with my fingers but these nips do not hurt and arent as agressive as my neighbors ferrets. do i need to punisher her for doing this? Also she likes to chase peoples feet and i really want to break this habbit. Any information is apreciated.

I would discourage the biting and nipping. As your ferret grows the playful nips will get a little harder and then it may start to hurt. Use a stuffy to play with your ferret instead of just your fingers. As far as the feet thing, when my ferret used to bite my feet I would scruff him gently and tell him no, and that worked for me. Scruffing is the way a mommy ferret would tell her baby no no no....so take over the role of momma and do the same thing.
