Sick Ferret?

reptilicus81 May 17, 2004 12:09 AM

We were given a 4 year old male ferret from a woman who no longer had time for him. However, he is worrying us! I am posting some pics of his body...he is 2.5 lbs and looks healthy when you hold him, but when he walks his backbone and hips stick out...His owner has fed him "deli cat" cat food for the majority of his life. "Deli cat" isn't even that great of a food for cats, so I am thinking it may be a nutritional issue? Any ideas?

He does not look too bad, maybe just a little underfed. I would get him on a high quality ferret food, like totally ferret, zupreem or the ferret store brand. Get some ferretone for him as well and give him a little of that. Half ferretone and half olive oil. Next thing is get him into a vet and see what they have to say about his condition and go from there. Good luck with your new baby.

Yeah we have him on half Iams kitten and half Marshalls with his delicat on the side! We got ferratone for him but I was unaware I was supposed to mix it with olive oil lol! Thanks for the advice!

You have to get him on better food. But besides that he doesn't look bad. Ferrets naturally have that scoop that you see. Oh in the pics I saw a rubberband on the floor. Be very careful, ferrets like to chew on rubber and it can cause impactations. Also other things like pencil erasers.
