Really worried, please respond quick

ShiaKun Jul 17, 2004 11:57 PM

Hey guys, I'm worried about my baby, Butterscotch. She's been fine but all of a sudden I found her limping. I just spotted it tonight. Do you guys think it'll go away? I noticed that when she kicks off with her left foot it feels like there's some force behind it, but when she kicks off with the right (the foot in question) it's weak. It hasn't halted her playfulness, I just hope it isn't something serious. Also, when I felt around on her leg, it didn't feel abnormal in any way. Let me know!

Chances are good that she just twisted something during play or some sm. mishap while in the cage. Just keep an eye on her and see if it resolves itself. The lack of strength in that leg could likely be due to some pain and not wanting to put pressure on it. Think about if you have ever sprained/strained a muscle. You tend to favor it till it doesn't hurt. Ferrets would do the same. However, not to make light of the problem, if it has not improved or has gotten worse by Tues. (about 3 days) then take her to the vet.
That's my best advice!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate the fast response. It comforts me a lot to hear that it may just be a sprain. I went on a chat session last night after I posted and they said there was a possibility of lymphoma, which seemed strange to me, being that she's only about 4 months old. They also said she might have broken it, which seems strange because her cage isn't that tall. I know that last time I played with her, when I noticed the limp, she did a little log roll beforehand, could that have anything to do with it? Also, I've removed the ladder to the second level to hopefully hinder maneuverability. Last thing, I had definitely planned on the vet if it hadn't improved by Teusday so I'm glad to see someone else had the same idea. Anyway, sorry for being so longwinded. As you can probably tell, I worry about my little fuzzball a lot. Again, thank you SO much!

My little Butterscotch is doing wonderful now, her leg is healed and she is playing on it like nothing happened. Thanks so much fullottermoon, you have no idea how much better you made me feel after the fact. Anyway, that's all I had to say. Thank you again!

I don't get to the forum as often as I used to but I'm very glad that I did at that particular time. So glad all is well and your ferret is fine. Glad I was able to help in any small way.Nancy
