Blue spots on paws

The last post got me thinking. Our fuzzies have blue spots on the pads of their paws. They spend time in a wire cage, with padding over the wires but they often push that away. Any ideas what this is?

What color is the cage? Could be the color from the wires or maybe the mat they push away. Have you tried putting linolium on the bottom? Or even come carpet cut to the size of the cage.
