New litter made out of wheat - Swheat Scoop

Katusha Dec 15, 2004 03:15 AM

I got my gardening magazine today and on the back of it they had an ad about Swheat Scoop litter. It's made out of wheat without any additives. It clumps when wet and is supposed to be flushable, septic or sewer lines. Has anyone heard or used this litter? I had used corn cob litter years ago and it wasn't bad, except the ferrets tracked it out quite a bit. I'm wondering if this is the same way. Here's a link that explains it.

Any opinions?

That stuff has been out for a couple years now. I tried a bag of it once. My kids hated it and tossed the stuff everywhere. And it doesn't just clump, it clumps & sticks to the litterpan. It was like trying to remove cement. I really don't recommend it at all.

I've been using paper pulp and Yesterdays News for years, so I haven't even looked at other litters. And here I thought it was new! LOL!!

wait, so is this like shredded wheat then? a box of shredded wheat is probably cheaper and your ferrets would like the frosted kind much more.

No, it's more like wheat sawdust. I imagine what causes it to clump is the gluten in the wheat. It's the same thing that causes dough to be sticky. Unfortunately, it causes the litter not only to stick to itself but also to anything it is in contact with such as the litterbox, your floor, your walls, whatever.
