Good thoughts for my Charlie

WeaselLuvr Jan 25, 2005 09:03 AM

Got home last night to find my little guy had developed a huge dental abscess. He's a the vet this morning to get it taken care of. This is the little malnourished boy I took in in November. He doesn't need to lose any of the weight we've managed to get on him.

Good luck to Charlie! Is the vet going to pull it right away or give him antibiotics? I hope he's feeling better real soon. Btw, how has he been doing? Getting along with your other pets so far?

Turns out that his teeth weren't involved. It's the lymph node under the jaw. Vet said it was really nasty and he sent off a culture to find out exactly what it is. He thinks it may be a fungal infection. Depending on what the lab says we may have to switch antibiotics. We've got Charlie on Clavamox right now. Judging from how it looked this morning we're probably going to have to drain it again which the vet told me was a possibility. While he was under he did get his teeth cleaned which he needed. He did well with the procedures and hasn't missed a meal.

He's afraid of the other ferrets and is still living alone. He was sleeping with me at night until he discovered the egg toys are fun and started getting up in the middle of the night to play with them and waking me up.

I'll keep him in my prayers, hopefully this will clear up quickly and he'll probably really start picking up weight then. Good luck!
