Help! Our baby Ferret bites... And I don't think it's nips...

ChesterAndDucky Apr 13, 2005 10:26 PM

Hi, we just bought a new ferret... It's a baby, not sure of the exact age though... Anyways, sometimes it starts to bite, and it hangs on sometimes... It hurts... It never has drawn blood... But it seems like more than the typical nip... I don't really know how to stop it... She doesn't seem like she doesn't like us, or that she is scared of us... She'll sleep right on our stomachs... But once in a while she gets into a biting frenzy where it hurts...

Any help is appreciated...

Thanks a lot...

Your baby needs to be taught some manners. When she bites scruff her and firmly tell her "no bite". If she still tries to bite, scruff her & drag her across the floor. You can hiss at her too. You need to establish that you're the alpha ferret.

Be patient, don't hit her or flick her nose and she'll soon learn she can't play rough with you. In the meantime, keep a stuffed toy between you and her teeth when she's really excited.

Congrats on the new baby!

Ok, thanks a lot for the advice... She doesn't seem like she's mad or scared at us... so... it may just be that she doesn't know better yet... I guess there is no way she really COULD know better yet. I'll try the techniques you said...

I really appreciate your advice...
