Baby ferret wont use his harness?

cady May 03, 2005 10:34 AM

Hi, My name is Cady and I am a new member to this forum, I have a 14 year old ferret named Felix. I love him so much but he hates to be held and cant stand to have his leash put on him. He also loves to bite, I know that this is common behavior for a ferret, and I am sure that he is just playing, but scruffing wont work. I would just deal with the pain but its getting to the point that I cant even put his harness on. I dont know how to break him of this habbit and how to get him used to a leash. Please post any advice you have. On another note do Marshall ferrets have tatoos in their ears? The place we bought Felix from said it was a Marshall ferret but out vet said he wasnt becase he doesnt have any marks on his ears?

I meant a 14 month old ferret sorry about that.

You'll have to get him used to it slowly. Put his harness on him every day for 15 minutes and gradually increase the time until he quits fighting it. Don't try to walk him outside until he gets accustomed to it.
