Hello,

New ferret pop, he's a 10 wk old from marshall we named him noodles. My Girlfriend and I bought him after doing some research. We are finally able to devote the time to care for a ferret. I am no longer going to school, now I am just working. My girlfriend is also finished with school and only works part-time.

We took noodles to the vet for the first time. he got a shot and a clean bill of health. the vet said to feed him chicken or eggs twice a week in addition to the marshall ferret diet. So can we just give him a corner off an omellet or a piece of chicken from dinner? I guess we should have ask the vet but we just didn't think.

Congrats! Sure you can share your dinner with Noodles just be careful of spices esp. salt.

I've always heard they're fine as treats but people food shouldn't be served to ferrets regularly. And does raw meat pose any hazards to them, like food poisoning? And could them eating the raw meat spread around the food poisoning and infect you?

People food like fruits & veggies shouldn't be given to the fuzz but meat is ok as long as its not overly seasoned. Healthy ferrets don't, generally, have a problem with food poisoning. They're designed to eat whole prey. That said, I don't think I would feed raw pork and would probably par boil poultry to kill surface bacteria. I still haven't convinced my ferrets that they can actually eat meat that hasn't already been pureed for them. Spoiled, lazy little weazels.

Thanks for the help, My girlfriend had an appointment today and did not make home in time to let noodles out at his regular time, well he seems to have flung feces all over the wall next to his cage. he is litter box trained, the wall is on the other side of the cage. he even pushed his food dish out of the corner. am I just giving him to much credit or did he really do it on purpose? also he's not like I have always been told ferrets are like. when we give him free roam of the living room he still chooses to hang around me and attack my hand and feet, he also seems to enjoy trying to stand on top of my head. Maybe it's just because he is still young.

He probably did have a temper tantrum. It's not at all unusual. Also, it's common for only ferrets to bond closely with their humans. You're his only playmates, afterall.
