Ferrets are very high maintenance pets. They need their nails trimmed, ears cleaned, and teeth brushed about once every 10 days. You really shouldn't bathe them unless they get into something nasty. Most of the upkeep with ferrets has to do with keeping their bedding washed, litterboxes cleaned, accidents picked up, and keeping them from digging holes in your furniture & carpet. They are intelligent, curious animals who can make a mess of just about anything. If you can, spend some time at a ferret shelter before getting one of your own so you can see first hand what it takes to be ferret owned.

Good luck!

Let's see...the ferrets rule the house here (along with the dogs, snakes, lizzards...and the list goes on). They are not so much as difficult to care for...they are quite easy. They are very time consuming though. Tank and Ellie live in our family room so they can constantly be with us. The require alot of attention and are very social animals. They sleep about 14 to 16 hours a day, but their wake time needs to be filled with interesting things. They roam our house freely and love to steal things like plastic water bottles and wedge them under the couch. They play with the dogs, scratch on the door to get into a room, and most of all jump, wiggle and slide all over.

They are really fun pets. Here are somethings to think about.

A: Two ferrets are better than one. Four better than three.
B: Be ready to clean their cages daily.
C: Their food is spendy.
D: They have sharp teeth (they will nibble a little during playtime)
E: Nails are easy to clip.
F: Like all animals, they need regular vet visits.
G: They are much easier than reptiles!!!
H: And most important....THEY ARE A BLAST.

Good Luck!
