Questions About Weight,Biting,and Hiding

Artishock214 Jan 28, 2007 06:46 PM

I Have A 6 month old male ferret. Who looks to be a bit over weight compared to my cousin ferrets. i feed him everytime his food dish it empty wich is 3-4 times a day and sometime even 5. i feel bad if i leave it empty for to long. Am i feeding him to much?

Also i have a question about his biting..when we have him out running around (he has free range over the house) he will come u and bite the back of your ankle and sometimes won't let go...other times he chats when he does it and it's a nibble.
he is constantly trying to exscape his cage when his is in there and digs all the litter out of his litter box. And when he doesn't dig it out he bites the side of his cage...
when he is out, and you try and get him to come to you or you go to pick him up..he runs under anything he can get under and hides and won't come out for over an hour..we have to bribe him with feratone!....and how often do there litter boxs need to be changed?...i change his almost everyother day...if he doesn't dig it all out, and my cousin have four ferrets in one cage and they don't have to change there litter as much as i do.

He doesn't look particularly overweight to me. Ferrets can range in size and build, I wouldn't worry about that. The nipping is for attention, he's asking you to play. Hiding under things when he thinks you are going to put him back in his cage is normal, I've had mine do that as well. Also I've had the biting on the bars and scattering of litter, he's telling you he wants out and generally throwing a tantrum. I had one that I could never break from biting the cage bars, he even broke a tooth doing it once. Ferrets can range in temperament as well as build, soounds like you got the high energy end of a normally high energy animal so he's pretty spunky, but everything you are describing sounds pretty much normal to me.
