baby lost arm

girlystar Jun 16, 2003 10:06 PM

Well our baby had her pups. Unfortunately the runt seems to have lost her arm. We think the others might have attacked her cause shes smaller. We've cleaned her wound, and after a day the swelling has gone down on the stump. Were really worried as to if shes going to survive. Shes still very active but smaller than the others. Anyone know if theres anything we can do to help her along and do you thinks she'll survive. Also were not shure if we can find her a home being handicapped. I guess if we have to we'll keep her but we've got to many animals already.

Thanks

Hi! So sorry to hear about the baby losing an arm. I don't think there is too much you can do to help. Just make sure the wound stays clean. I have heard sometimes the mother will reject an injured baby so you might want to keep an eye on that. If the mother is rejecting her you might have to have another mother gerbil feed her if you know one that is available or hand-feed her. I'm sure you won't have a problem finding her a home! It might even make it easier. Someone might think "Oh that poor baby gerbil lost an arm! Let's take her home." You never know! Good luck and wishing all the best for the baby gerbil.

Hi, I was wondering where you live because I have been looking for some gerbils?? I think it would be wonderful if I got her from you because I love gerbils!!
