I just lost almost all my gerbils--two clans--from Tyzzer's Disease, leaving only the patriarchs of each alive. I couldn't find tetracycline anywhere, so I treated the two remaining with neomycin sulfate (DriTail from the petstore)...but when I stopped medication for only a couple of days, the symptoms returned. Then, I did find tetracycline, which I quickly treated them with...now their poo has turned somewhat 'solid', and they don't look as sick as they did before.

Now, I realize I have to medicate them for some time...maybe two or so months...? But after that--would it be safe to put new gerbils with them for their companions? Or should I just try and split cage them with each other? One of them's neutered but he still is quite aggressive, so I'm not so keen to try and put them together...I'm sure they'll fight sooner or later, and I might have better luck with pups...but I'm not sure if they'll still be carriers at that point. Please, I really need advice, as I don't want these two to spend the rest of their lives alone...they've been too much already, after losing their entire families and all...
