I did a search today on Gerbil Housing and it came up alot of interesting stuff. Many Different ways to House them including sand( a fine grain of sand) or if you didn't want to use it in their whole house just a bowl of sand to bathe in it. But they did say they will do their business in it. But just go search the web for it, I found many websites that actually showed ppl's gerbil's enclousure. It might give you a good idea. Happy Hunting and good luck with that!!
ahh Do you happen to have the websites? If so can u paste them =) if not tha'ts ok thanks for your help!

I hope these help, I did find one website that says to put clay pots on the bottom of the tank before adding the bedding so the tunnels don't collapse on them. Also it says that sand is not a good bedding to use because it can scratch them but the chinchilla dust is good for them to roll around in. Let me know how it turns out, take a pic I'd love to see your creation.
Thanks for the links ill try =) i want a natural environment for them to live in !
Good luck on that!!!
