Today I bought a Deckert's rat snake. I've never heard of this type before but when I saw it I couldn't resist. I looks closer to an everglades rat snake than anything else. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this species. If you have any pics can you please post them. Thanks.

The Deckerts rat is also called the Keys rat snake. Its scientific name is elaphe obsoleta deckerti.

It is actually considered to be a variant of the yellow rat snake by some. This is probably because it has the same stripes in adulthood as the yellow rat, but usually has the darker coloring like the everglades rat.

Take a look at this link.

Good luck and Happy Herping
