My son tried to pick one of our gerbils up by the tail, and the skin and fur on half the tail came off! It has a bare red tail, and keeps squeaking and looking at it. We put the other gerbil in another cage. Is there anything else to do? I called the vet, and they said amputation. Will the skin and fur grow back?
