Rabbit kicking litter out of box

terrier_momma Apr 18, 2004 04:43 PM

My 6 or 7-year-old Dutch spayed female rabbit, Oreo, has recently began kicking her litter out of her box and into other areas of her cage. I can't explain why this has just recently begun, since absolutely nothing in her routine has changed. I looked at the HRS's website and I did find something on that in an article, and it reccommended a litter box with a hood. However, I used one for her when I first got her, and after only a day or two of using the litter box (yes, I was cleaning it), she stopped and refused to use it. Once I switched to an open litter box, she was perfect.

The only thing I can think of to do, is to maybe add less litter to her litter box, only enough to coat it, so she realizes that if she kicks it out, she doesn't have any left. Obviously, I would clean the box more often too. Does anyone have experience with this and think that adding less litter might help?

Thanks!

Ah the bigger the better, lol, I love Oreo, she looks like my Licorice girl !

As far a the litter, hey who knows, maybe shes just going through a bordom time, and is being ornery !

I agree with you, just use less litter, see what she does.

She sure is pretty ! AND HUGE !!! (kidding) I like your pic
