Bunny of the week went to the vet friday!

chunks_89 Jun 15, 2004 10:46 AM

When I was away, my dad took fluffy in to the vet because he was shaky and acting strange. He went out to a new vet office in a suburb about 15 mins away. Fluffy didn't mind the ride. When he got there, my Dad was told that fluffy was slightly dehydrated and needed a bit more weight.

Too much of a diet!!! Remember fluffy? Clean bum guy?

I am feeding him to his heart's content now (not too much) even though he isn't eating much for pellets, leaves and greends are always accepted!

Fluffy was dehydrated because of a water bottle that ALWAYS needs filling up, becuase it doesn't wirk if it's half-full...stupid things never work...

I also found out that Fluffy is a FEMALE!!!!
SURPRISE!!!!
She has been to the vet before, but the vet didn't sex her, so we have been calling her a he for 7 years, it's STILL weird calling her a her.

She was also dehydrated becuase of all the excersice she was doing (to lose weight and keep it off) and it didn't help that it was 95F here thursday, then back down around 65 the next day! That's Canada for ya!

Hehe, thanks for the feedback everyone. She is drinking well and just went out for a run. I let her eat a shed of coconut off of my pastry (very small!) and gave her my apple core to gnaw on for the night. Pretty much back to normal.

Funny, my mom said she was happy to have girls in the house after I bought two new female chameleons. Ironic how she said that, but had two (then one after one died) female bunnies in the house for 7 years lol!

Male rabbits can be sexed very easy...not only can you see the testicals....but if not neutered their behavior is very different upon sexual maturity (normally 6 months old)....Males spray everywhere and are extremely aggressive and growl/circle alot if not neutered....Generally, there is little doubt you have a male or not after 6 months just by behavior alone......Just thought I'd add a little info for anyone wondering what they have...glad your visit went well......I notice Dublin isnt drinking much from his bottle ethier....I've been a little worried about it myself...He knows where it is and I've tested it and it works fine....I'm monitoring hus water level now.....Glad your little one is doing good.

Fluffy used to have a sister (I know she was a girl because plenty of humping was going on, but no new bunnies arrived) that she used to fight with ALL THE TIME. they used to smell quite badly, were very aggressive when in their cage, and fight almost constantly. We stacked 2 large storage cup things that you use in a workshop, fluffy hopped into the top one whenever the other would chase her around...hehehe
