Incubation temps

pcole Oct 11, 2003 07:40 PM

I just wanted to see if others have experienced what I have. I have incubated numerous CG eggs at between 70 -75 degrees (room temp in my home) and have found that all CG's have turned out female. Have any other CG breeders found them to be TSD? I'm only going by 2 years of breedings but I have yet to breed a male at these temps. Let me know of your experiences.
thx,
Pete

Pete,
I usually just put my crested eggs on a shelf somewhere in my room and I have always gotten a good ratio of males to females. According to the Henkel & Seipp Rhac book 78-80F should produce all females, and room temp mostly males (which doesn’t happen with me). Also 82F and up is supposed to produce males, however I do not recommend incubating that high. Then there are breeders who produce mostly males or females at both extremes. So are they TSD? Not sure, but I am leaning more towards no. I am incubating all my eggs in the high 70’s this year, so I’ll see if it makes a difference.
