I really want to get a rabbit. Can anyone give some info on the mini rex. The only breeder that I've found here in Hattiesburg, Ms only has mini rexes and himalayans. Any info would be great.

Thanks,
Lisa

My opinion may be a bit biased because mini rex are my favourite breed, but that is what happens when you have had them for 12 years.

Mini rex are usually pretty calm and friendly, as long as (just like any breed) you either get them as a baby and handle them often or you get an adult that is used to being handled. They are often quite personable with well-defined personalities. One of mine is quite the ham, another punches the cat if he bothers her too much. Very much characters! They should be no more than 4 1/2 lbs for females and 4 1/4 for males if you are showing, but many breeding and pet quality ones can reach around 5 pounds. Their fur is absolutely amazing! It is like velvet with a touch of silk in the mix.

I would highly suggest you join the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA), even if you are just wanting a pet. They offer a lot of great benefits for being a member. My link below will take you to a page that will tell you of the benefits and it links to a form you can print out and send in to join the ARBA. One of the benefits is a yearbook with a list of breeders in your area!
