My daughter just turned 9 years old this month and would like to join 4-H. She wants to do rabbits (forget about the 5 dogs that she could show...sigh).

I had a french Angora and an american Angora over 10 years ago. They were they only rabbits that I have ever had. I am confident that my daughter although highly intelligent can't handle the grooming that it takes. OK OK so her MOTHER doesn't want to commit to helping her taking care of all the fur care. Hey, i have 6 kids and five dogs as well as other responsibilities, lol. Anyway, she wants a rabbit that she can show. I am at a loss as I have never done 4-H and I don't know about other breeds. I have read up and all and so has my daughter however I want opinions here from people how actually love their rabbits and possibly have shown them and could offer advise.

I do have my 6'X6' cage that I had my angoras in. My daughter is looking for a small rabbit. And I want a friendly breed for her. I love the angora temperment but its the fur thats stopping me from getting her one.
Right now we are just in the beginning stages of planning this. I have called 4-H and got some names of breeders BUT I am hessitant, they all are dwarf or lop. I want to know what i'm looking for before i am looking. Mainly i want to get the right breed.

Any opinions??? I welcome any opinion and suggestion.

have you concidered netherland dwarf rabbits? They are small under 5 pounds and are used at shows often, I have a netherland dwarf and she is the sweetest thing, except now that shes pregnant, lol! Anyway, dwarfs stay small and are very cute, well i think so .. They come in many colors and breeds! here is a site you can look at it shows some pictures of different breeds http://www.andrc.com/spotlight.html also http://www.centralpets.com/pages/photopages/mammals/rabbits/PHOTO_RBT1435.php?rate=0&Page=1
